Evidence for eConsultation
eCASE is being developed in consultation with team members from the Ontario Champlain “Building Access to Specialist care through eConsultation” (BASE™) program. This program has been in operation since 2010, and has expanded from 5 to over 90 specialty areas, addressing over 21,000 consults to date.
Research published by the Ontario Champlain BASE™ team has shown that:
- Specialists responded to eConsults in a median of 0.9 days
- Over 60% of cases did not require a face-to-face specialist visit
- An unnecessary referral was avoided in 40% of cases
- Healthcare providers report a high level of satisfaction with the service (consistently over 90% satisfaction rate)
